Animal rights activists from Navi Mumbai felicitated

Aditi Lahiri, Roshni Majumdar and Rinki Banerji have one thing in common – these three dynamic ladies have been selflessly working for the welfare of stray animals, and facing the perils of it.

The three women are from Navi Mumbai and were felicitated with the Women Achievers Awards. The event was organized by The Young Environmentalists Program at Rhodes Ecotel, Powai.

Lahiri, a cancer patient, has been helping and feeding stray animals in Navi Mumbai since the past 10 years. On the other hand, a young MBA student, Majumdar, was beaten and molested by some some local goons at Sanpada last year because she used to feed an injured stray dog.

Even Majumdar had to face the ire of animal-haters when she was recently attacked by some in New Panvel.  Lahiri said, “ Many people are completely hostile towards animals, with some even poisoning them! It is becoming increasingly difficult to fight for the rights of stray animals. Sterilization and welfare of these animals is an important issue and the government should establish welfare centers for the same.

Many other socialites were awarded at the ceremony including theatre personality Dolly Thakore, classical musician Sunita Bhuyan, TV host Sophia Hayat, social worker Dr Mithu Alur, among others.
