CIDCO establishes a Rehab Policy to help project affected persons in Navi Mumbai

Whenever there are development projects taken up in India, the displaced inhabitants vent their anger at the authorities by staging strikes and dharnas. The same is the case with Navi Mumbai. The ambitious Navi Mumbai Airport is in doldrums over PAPs (project affected persons) strife and environmental issues. Taking note of the grievances of PAPs, CIDCO under the leadership of Mr. Sanjay Bhatia has come up with a 26 point rehabilitation policy.

The rehabilitation plan aims to address the concerns raised by PAPs, leaving them with little incentive for agitation. The plan aims to be all encompassing, leading to inclusive growth of PAPs and their future generations.

According to TOI sources, a senior CIDCO bureaucrat has stated that overall objective of this new policy is to inculcate the lessons learned from past strifes. The provisions include allotment of 12.5 % developed land and setting up of a consumer facilitation center for PAPs.The rehabilitation plan also aims to achieve transparency in allotment of CIDCO developed lands.

The 5 main key highlights of the new CIDCO policy are:

1. A gracious financial assistance of Rs. Five lakh for cultural events organized by PAPs.

2. Payment of IIT and IIM fees of project affected students by CIDCO.

3. Establishment of Consumer facilitation center and grievance redressal mechanism.

4. Massive hike in stipend paid to students of ITI, junior and senior colleges.

5. Transparent, uniform and computerized allotment of developed land to PAPs.
