CM Prithviraj Chavan to meet the PM over airport project on November 13

In order to update the Central Government about the progress made on Navi Mumbai Airport project, the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will meet the PM Manmohan Singh on November 13 in New Delhi. Top state government officials will accompany the chief Minister on this trip.

The project is at an impasse as CIDCO and villagers are stuck in a deal regarding compensation over the displacement. In fact, 2 MLAs, Prashant Thakur of Congress and Vivek Patil of PWP, have sent a meeting request between Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and government officials to sort the stalemate before the PM meet begins.

An advisor to Navi Mumbai Antarashtriya Vimantal Prakalpabadhit Samiti, Mr. R C Gharat has said, “We have not opposed the project, but villagers are concerned about their future. When the CM had come for inaugurating the sports complex, it was conveyed to him to hold a meeting to sort out the issue.”

A CIDCO official has stated that, “Technically, the area of the airport has been marked and most of the clearances have been obtained. What remains is the 671 hectares of land. We have discussed the issue with the villagers, but a collective decision is awaited. The villagers also know that under the CIDCO model, they would get 22.5% of developed plots of for every hectare acquired as compared to the 20% under central legislation”.

CIDCO is also planning to spend a considerable amount on area development which once implemented will be recovered from the villagers.
