Navi Mumbai Police apprehend thieves stealing car stereos

Navi Mumbai Police achieved a major breakthrough in cases related to car stereo thefts by nabbing culprits related to the crime. The arrests were done on Saturday and Sunday and total number of thieves apprehended stand at two. The men arrested were part of a wide network of stealing operation involving a total of eight members. The gang was very sophisticated and they committed a total of 34 thefts in Airoli alone.

The modus operandi was that the thieves would flee under the cover of darkness once the theft was committed. They were in cohorts with certain shopkeepers who would sell these stolen goods.

According to Deputy commissioner of police (zone 1) Suresh Mengde, “Two police constables caught Pawar on May 1, after he stole music systems from parked cars in sector 19, Airoli. This led to the arrest of another thief, Umesh Chavan, and also a Mumbai-based shopkeeper, Mohammed Izhar J Khan, who used to buy these stolen goods. The accused would zero in on cars parked in secluded by-lanes. Two-three members would keep guard to prevent anyone from getting close to the scene of the crime. The others would break the windshield of cars and wrench out the music systems”.

Based on these arrests, the police hope to make a breakthrough with the rest of the thieves.
