Navi Mumbai witnesses a unique eye donation campaign

When you see bikers roaring on the road, you assume them to be unruly and anti-social. However, Super bikers from the Dark Devil Angels Riders Club broke the prejudiced viewpoints by participating in an eye donation campaign rally. The rally was organized by the medical students of D Y Patil medical college with the objective of raising awareness about eye donation. Apart from the rally, walkathons and street plays were also organized. The main message displayed was “Don’t dump, don’t burn, but donate eyes’.

Skits with the students blindfolded were conducted outside Nerul and Belapur railway stations. This show drew huge responses with many people pledging to the cause.

Advait Jadhav, coordinator of the show, said, “This event is part of our annual festival, Aura. Blindness control was the slogan of the day”. Sahanya Shetty, a participating student, commented, “We had prior permission from the police for the rally from Nerul to CBD and Airoli. But due to time constraint, we had to wrap up the show at Nerul at noon. However, we were successful in mobilizing the campaign in the locality”.

The rally initiated at from the college gate at 10.30 am with a convoy of 10 bikes and seven cars. It passed through SIES circle, D Y Patil medical gate, Nerul railway station road, Nerul police station, Nerul fire station, Amra Marg, Killa junction, Belapur station road, CBD circle, Sion-Panvel Highway and finallay returned back to D Y Patil campus.
